GMAT PREPARATION

GMAT Focus Edtion

The GMAT Focus Edition is a specialized admissions test known for its distinctive format, strict timing, and comprehensive evaluation of essential analytical and reasoning skills. Test-takers typically have around two minutes per question, making effective time management and strategic thinking crucial for achieving a strong performance. The exam assesses several key competencies across different sections, requiring candidates to demonstrate flexibility and accuracy when working through varied problem types. Consequently, achieving a competitive score on the GMAT Focus Edition requires targeted preparation that aligns closely with the exam’s structure and demands.

Developed by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) in McLean and first introduced in 1953, the GMAT was created to provide a standardized method for evaluating applicants to business schools worldwide. Today, the GMAT Focus Edition is administered in 96 countries and is recognized by more than 2,300 universities and over 7,700 graduate management programs globally, making it one of the most widely accepted assessments for admission into business and management studies.

GMAT Focus Edition Scoring Overview

The GMAT Focus Edition is open to candidates aged 18 and above. Individuals between 13 and 17 years old may also sit for the exam with parental or guardian consent. Registration is completed online through mba.com, and there are no restrictions related to nationality or academic background, making the exam accessible to applicants worldwide

Candidates may take the GMAT Focus Edition up to five times within a 12-month period, with a minimum interval of 16 days between attempts. Test appointments can be scheduled as far as six months in advance.

The standard test fee is approximately £235 at test centres and about £255 for the online version. Additional fees may apply if candidates choose to reschedule or cancel their appointment.

The exam lasts 2 hours and 15 minutes, including an optional 10-minute break. It is divided into three sections of 45 minutes each:

  • Quantitative Reasoning

  • Verbal Reasoning

  • Data Insights

One of the distinctive features of the GMAT Focus Edition is that candidates may select the order in which they complete these sections, allowing greater flexibility and enabling them to approach the exam according to their personal testing strategy.

About The GMAT TEST

The GMAT Focus Edition consists of 64 questions in total and produces an overall score ranging from 205 to 805. Each of the exam’s sections is scored separately on a scale from 60 to 90, and these section scores collectively determine the final result.

The test uses a computer-adaptive testing (CAT) system, meaning that the difficulty of questions changes based on the candidate’s performance as the exam progresses. Because of this adaptive format, strong accuracy at the start of each section plays a particularly important role in influencing the final score.

Incorrect answers do not carry any direct penalty, but leaving questions unanswered can negatively affect the final result. Therefore, achieving a strong performance on the GMAT Focus Edition requires consistent pacing, careful strategy, and ensuring that every question is attempted before time expires.

The GMAT Focus Edition introduces a number of changes designed to provide greater flexibility and improved testing strategies for candidates. One of the main updates is the introduction of the Data Insights section, which replaces previous content areas such as Geometry and Sentence Correction. This new section emphasizes analytical thinking and the ability to interpret and evaluate data, reflecting skills that are highly valued in modern business education.

Another important feature is the ability for candidates to review and modify up to three answers within each section, allowing better control over time management and giving test-takers the opportunity to correct potential mistakes.

Once the exam is completed, candidates receive a comprehensive score report that includes the total score, individual section scores, and a detailed breakdown of performance. This report also highlights key strengths as well as areas that may need improvement, helping candidates better understand their results and plan any further preparation if necessary.
